South Sudan Thanks Tanzania for Peace Efforts


Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said Tanzania will continue to broker and ensure peace is restored in South Sudan, but also called on the two warring parties to respect the peace agreement signed in Arusha in 2015.
The peace agreement signed in Arusha focused on ending the conflict between the parties and embarks on reunification and restoring peace in the youngest nation in East Africa and the continent.
Vice President Samia made the remarks yesterday in Dar es Salaam when receiving a special message from South Sudan government on behalf of President John Pombe Magufuli who is in the capital city Dodoma.
According to a statement from the Vice President Office, Samia stressed on peace dialogues as the best solution in seeking solutions to put an end to conflicts between the parties which have resulted in untold suffering and loss of lives and property in South Sudan.
"Tanzania will be in the forefront to ensure peace and tranquility is restored in South Sudan, so that the public can go back to building the nation," she said.
South Sudan President Salva Kiir sent the special message through his Minister of Trade and Industries, Stephen Dhieu Dau Ayik to Tanzania, expressing his appreciation to Dr Magufuli and Tanzania in general in efforts to restore peace in the country.
The South Sudan minister said peace continues to improve in his country, following ending of battle between military officers loyal to President Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar.
