2 CORD MPs Exchange Blows in Dramatic Club Fight

Two Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) engaged in a physical fight on Friday at Kitale Members Club.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa accused his Tongareni counterpart Eseli Simiyu, who is also the Ford-Kenya Secretary General, of hatching a plan together with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to give direct party nominations to candidates.

"Why are you forcing the party leader to give a direct nomination to governor Patrick Khaemba who has been dining and wining with Jubilee," the MP lashed out.

According to a waitress at the club, the heated debate turned into a physical fight after Mr Wamalwa threw a blow at Eseli, before he also responded.

It took the intervention of patrons and other individuals at the club to separate the two legislators.

Reports indicate that the two have differed on how Ford Kenya party should handle its primaries, with Eseli supporting Khaemba to retain the Trans Nzoia Governor's seat which Wamalwa is also eyeing.

When contacted for a comment on the matter, Wamalwa accepted that they differed with Eseli and termed him as a liability to the party.

"It is true we differed and exchanged words at the club. I never expected my colleague to protect people accused of perpetuating corruption," Wamalwa affirmed.

Efforts by party leader Wetangula to reconcile the two lawmakers have not borne fruit, with party officials now pressuring him to address the issue which is threatening to divide the party.
