When he’s
not blowing things up on the big screen, Hollywood actor, bodybuilder and
former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is a businessman and promoter
who recently got an opportunity to advocate for endangered African elephants.
Known
as The Terminator for his most famous movie role, Schwarzenegger was in South
Africa promoting a health and fitness trade expo, the Arnold Classic
Africa, HuffingtonPost reported.
On
a visit to a game reserve, he had a close call with an elephant, then posted
a video on social media that shows the elephant charging the Jeep he
was in, Fox reported.
The
video shows an elephant coming up to the Jeep windshield, backing up, then
walking off the road, apparently losing interest. Then the elephant returns and
chases after the vehicle as it drives away.
As
of Thursday, the one-minute video, posted to Facebook Tuesday, has been viewed
more than 2.2 million times, HuffingtonPost reported.
Schwarzenegger
wrote: “I’m absolutely in awe of these beautiful, strong animals, even though
some of us had to change our pants after this.”
He
said he couldn’t have written the encounter any better if it had been a movie
scene.
“We
need to stop killing them – take a photo, not a shoot. Would you rather be able
to experience these creatures or a hunk of ivory? I thought
so,” Schwarzenegger said.
These
are some comments showing approval on social media, IBTimes reported:
Tebogo
Matshediso said, “I wish you could come fully loaded like in COMMANDO
accompanied by a T1000 to South Africa to protect our endangered species, at
the rate of poaching experienced here, there won’t be much to see in the near
future.”
Rob
Wilshaw, said he considers the actor his childhood hero: “You are truly
the man!”
Mitch
Gertz said, “I’m glad you showed you’re human, and didn’t scream like a girl …
We need to protect them for our grandchildren to see.”
The
Arnold Classic is
an annual professional men’s bodybuilding competition run by the
International Federation of Body Builders. A four-day event
is held every year in Columbus, Ohio, featuring a bodybuilding and
fitness tournament and a three-day fitness expo.
This
year, the Arnold Classic was held
for the first time in South Africa as a multi-sport and exhibition
extravaganza. The inaugural event was held May 27-29 in Johannesburg.
