New RCs, DCs line-up named

Chief Secretary (CS), Ambassador John Kijazi
PRESIDENT John Magufuli has made a mini-reshuffle in the line-up of regional commissioners (RCs) in three regions and appointed 139 district commissioners (DCs), dropping 100 from the current list while retaining 39 of them.

Among the new DCs, 22 were serving as District Executive Directors (DEDs) while the remaining 78 are new appointees, including the youth and educated Tanzanians with experience in a number of fields.

“President Magufuli considered a number of criteria before making the selection, including age in which he decided that leaders over 60 years of age should retire,” the Chief Secretary (CS), Ambassador John Kijazi, said yesterday in a statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications.

The CS noted further that Dr Magufuli has promoted Sengerema District Commissioner Ms Zainab Telack to become Shinyanga Regional Commissioner. Ms Telack takes over from Ms Anna Kilango-Malecela ,whose appointment was revoked in April after she reportedly filed false reports to the president in regard to ghost workers in Shinyanga.

In the same development, Dr Magufuli has appointed former Minister of State in the Vice-President’s Office (Environment and Union Affairs), Dr Binilith Mahenge, as Ruvuma RC.

Dr Mahenge replaces the current RC, Mr Said Mwambungu, who has been transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office in Dar es Salaam where he will be assigned other duties.

Ambassador Kijazi also announced that President Magufuli has promoted Siha District Commissioner, Dr Charles Mlingwa, as Mara RC, taking over from Mr Stanslaus Magesa Mulongo, whose appointment has been revoked.

“The new regional commissioners will take oath at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday after which they will make a public leadership integrity pledge. “The district commissioners are required to report to the State House on Wednesday for the integrity pledge and other instructions.

They will be sworn-in by regional commissioners upon reporting to their respective work stations,” the statement explained. The new DCs’ line-up and their assigned stations and regions is shown below;
