A third-year student at Egerton University was on Monday, October 17, found dead after allegedly hanging himself on a tree near the institution’s hockey pitch.
Daniel Irungu’s body was discovered by the university’s security personnel at 6 am. The guards were conducting a morning patrol when they found the body of the student dangling from a tree.
His colleague told eDaily that Mr Irungu, who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, always kept to himself and rarely went to his hostel room.
According to sources Mr Irungu had cleared his fees and registered for his examinations.
Njoro police boss Philip Opiyo said the deceased did not leave a suicide note behind as is common in such cases.
Mr Opiyo said that the police had not yet established the motive behind the suicide despite reports that the student had lost a Sh 40,000 bet over the weekend.
The body was taken to Nakuru County mortuary.
