Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has welcomed Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua's decision to vie for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
Speaking moments after Ms Karua announced her decision, Waiguru who is eyeing the same position stated that the former Presidential aspirant was within her rights to vie for whichever position she wished.
Waiguru, however, assured that she would beat Ms Karua for the post claiming that she had enough backing from area electorates.

The former CS was responding after Karua declared she was running for the Kirinyaga Governor's seat in the 2017 election, meaning the two will join Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari and MuriithiKagai in the battle to unseat current Governor Joseph Ndathi.
Karua's announcement came barely a month after she declared her interest in the Presidency but affirmed she would not join either Jubilee of CORD coalitions.
Addressing the media, the former Justice Minister divulged that she would begin her campaign for the gubernatorial seat in two weeks time but did not explain why the sudden change of heart.
Karua's new political move sparked interesting reactions with a section of the public noting that she would lead Kirinyaga in the right direction.
In August, Waiguru announced her candidature for the position after joining the ruling coalition. Since then, she has been running spirited campaigns in attempts to woo area voters.
