A KCPE candidate in Homa Bay County collapsed on Tuesday morning while sitting for her final exams.
Brenda Achieng’, 14, fainted while taking the Mathematics paper at Ogenga Primary School.
Confirming the incident, area sub county Education director Sospeter Were said the girl lost consciousness just before the second paper, English Grammar.
Mr. Were said Achieng’ was taken to Ramula sub county hospital for treatment.
“We had to assign other invigilators to supervise the girl to enable her take the papers in the hospital,” he said.
He said the pupil was diagnosed with malaria.
“Let’s give pupils a conducive environment for exams,” he added.
He further assured Achieng’s parents that she will do the remaining papers in the hospital if she is not discharged by Wednesday.
Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations started Tuesday across the country.
A total of 952, 472 candidates are sitting for the exams across 26, 308 centres.
The candidates — 473, 719 girls and 478, 753 boys — will finish the exams on Thursday.
