Pistols recovered during a previous operation
New details now indicate that gangsters killed in a fierce shootout along Mombasa Road on Thursday morning were using Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko bodyguard's gun.
Information from the authorities suggests that one of the Ceska pistols recovered from the four thugs had been stolen from Bakari Tsuma, who was killed in Kasarani estate four months ago.
Mr Tsuma was shot dead in March while returning home after escorting the Senator and his gun stolen by the attackers.
Officers privy to the Thursday morning operation divulged that the source of the second pistol was unknown, but two of the felled gunmen had been identified.
According to Kikuyu DCI boss Aden Ahmed, the suspects, who he described as vicious, were wanted for several criminal cases around Thogoto area where they hailed from.
Mr Ahmed added that one of the gang members known as Kennedy Kinyanjui was wanted for murdering one of his aunts in June, while several members of his family including his mother, sister and brother had pending cases in court.
Officers from the Special Crime Unit killed the four at Cabanas area amid a fierce shootout after pursuing them from Kiambu.
During the 3am incident, the officers also recovered 24 rounds of ammunition from the dead suspects.
Elsewhere, two robbers were killed along Muringa Road in Kilimani with two guns, a laptop and four mobile phones being recovered.
According to a senior officer involved in the matter, one of the guns had been stolen from a lawyer in Kikuyu.
