DP Ruto Now Linked to the Brazil Cruise Ship Drama

It has now emerged that the room claimed to have been booked for President Uhuru Kenyatta on a cruise ship in Rio de Janeiro was occupied by another individual.

In a new twist of events, Team Kenya's Chef de Mission to Brazil Stephen arap Soi on Wednesday revealed that the room was occupied by Deputy President William Ruto who attended the Rio Olympic Games.

Mr Soi on Tuesday unveiled alarming details indicating that the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) had booked a room for President Kenyatta at a cost of Sh2.1 Million - Sh60,000 ($605) per day for 18 days.

According to the embattled NOCK official, he paid for the room one year prior to the games, claims that were dismissed by State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu.

“Foreign travel for His Excellency the President is arranged solely by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At no time dos the ministry delegate that function to any other government department or agency,” State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu stated.

"It is curious as to why an agency not authorised to arrange his travel would purport to take on that role," he added.

Mr Esipisu noted that the President expects the matter to be investigated and those culpable brought to book.

It's not clear why Soi changed his mind to now say Ruto occupied the ship, revelations that he made only a day after saying the rooms were unoccupied as the Head of State did not travel.

NOCK officials have been on the spot after the body was disbanded by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario over the damning allegations facing the officials.
