Kenyan Artistes Return Empty-Handed from AFRIMA Awards in Nigeria

Kenyan artists had a rather bad outing at the recently concluded All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held on Sunday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Islands in Lagos, Nigeria.

As usual, Nigerian artists won big as Kenya’s ten nominees returned home empty-handed.

Kenyan nominees included AFRIMMA winners Sauti Sol, Mercy Masika, Avril, Nyashinski, Victoria Kimani and Dufla Diligon. Others included: Kanyekiz, Evelyn Wanjiru, Denno and Papa Dennis.

Wizkid who won two awards at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) and the MTV EMA Europe awards a fortnight ago won the Artiste of the Year the year award.

Tanzania’s Diamond scooped three gongs for Best Male East Africa, Song of the Year- Utanipenda and Best Afropop artist.
